Ten years ago a medical condition stopped my running. I looked for an aerobic replacement and read that jumping rope for ten minutes equaled a one mile run. Having never jumped rope, and not enough room in my house to spin a rope above my head I decided to try and simulate a jumping rope with a simple device.

At first, I used long, winter socks in which I placed a small potato. I spun those. It worked and the potatoes last for about six months -- I knew you wanted to know that.

I discovered this is a great workout for in the home and easier on the body than running. When you get into the jumping with music that makes you move it feels like dancing or riding the music, you become the music and get into what runner's call the runner's high. I call it aerobic meditation.

So, I decided to design a simple jumping device. It has had many names: aerobichi balls, bodydrummers, skip the rope, my balls, your balls, and so forth. No matter what they are called they provide a great workout for any age.

Sure, the price is higher than a normal jump rope but they are hand made and guaranteed for five years. They also provide those who assemble them with a decent wage.

I combine this workout with a stretching show called Classical Stretch, available on PBS (public television). The combined workout, which includes both cardio and stretching exercise, should take only 30 minutes.
